Working with precious metals has been a major focus in my life for the past 16 years. The continuation of learning and experimenting with different aspects of traditional and new techniques, particularly Engraving, has provided me with great personal pleasure and fulfilment.
Drawn to Jewellery making through the fantastic range of classes available through the McGregor Summer School, held each year at USQ in Toowoomba, was how my journey began. Mainly attending classes with International Multi Award Winning Master Jeweller, Rex Steele Merten, each year whenever I had the opportunity. In recent years I have been attending Enamelling Classes with Carolynne Delzoppo, another extremely talented AWARD Winning Artist. It is exciting to see the colours of the glass develop as they cool down after being retrieved from the Kiln.
In 1999 it was through our sport of Rodeo, that led me to Johnney Weyerts Engraving and Fine Arts School in Alpine Texas, USA, where I began to learn to engrave. This new found skill has really enhanced my Jewellery making. Most recently though it has been through further tuition from highly accomplished Engraver, Jeremiah Watt, that has broadened my skills in the engraving area.
It is the austere beauty of what can be created from precious metals and gems that continues to provide the single greatest inspiration for my work. In addition through continuing to learn and striving to improve makes me love what I do and I feel very fortunate that others also find my work appealing (It also helps to keep us fed!!!).
